“Where did the places go? I mean the real places, those little pieces of the world that were inhabited by the gods before men (…)?” – asked himself Dorothy Paz and went on to ask himself how we could resign ourselves to living in neutral, abstract, rootless spaces, coming out of the imagination of heartless urbanists…
Elvezia Allari also questions us through the works of ‘Abito in un giardino meraviglioso’, the exhibition that opens Saturday, May 4, 2019 at SCD Textile & Art Studio, the space dedicated to fiber art and contemporary textile art, in Perugia (via Bramante 22N).
Il giardino meraviglioso della Allari is above all a mental and emotional space: the place where we sow what we have most precious, the refuge of the spirit away from the noise of the world, the time when we feel free from the weight of the stringent canons of form and beauty that others choose for us.
But her work also runs through the collective imagination of an elsewhere where to recover an authentic and respectful relationship with the Earth: far from the representation of a nature tamed and designed for the taste and needs of man, that of Allari is a hymn to the poetry of life in all its manifestations. Her clothes made of tissue paper and seeds are the metaphor of a desirable new humanity, which lives the planet with gentle lightness, aware of the responsibility of being the creator – like nature – of that wonderful garden in which she herself aspires to live.
Allari bends the materials to weave light but resistant textures, aerial clothes created to ‘dress’ the earth and not man, an invitation to take care of the planet, to sow so that a new world can sprout where all living beings can find their own eden. His textile art is reminiscent of traditional weaving, ancient fired weaves, contemporary fiber art, oriental macramé: an alchemy of techniques that contaminate each other, creating complex installations and a powerful, evocative and evocative narrative.
Elvezia Allari has projects and exhibitions in national and international contexts. Just to name a few: she designed and created for McArthurGlen Designer Outlets in collaboration with A.N.G.E.L.O. for the 2014 Vintage Fashion Festival clothes reproduced as works of wire couture; in 2006 she was among the artists invited to the Triennale Tessile in Bratislava. Her works are present in private collections and foundations in Italy and abroad. His work has been the focus of interest for research and university studies.
